Kansas Al-Anon/Alateen History Trivia
Every so often we will share another tidbit of our history, so please check back periodically.
1. The first Kansas Area Assembly was held October 1, 1960, and that assembly was the first held on the North American continent.
2. Seventeen voting members attended the first State Assembly and 27 groups were registered.
3. Alateens were given the right to vote at assemblies on September 22, 1962.
4. The first Al-Anon/Alateen Conference in Kansas was held in Topeka, KS on May 4,5,and 6, 1973.
5. The first newsletter was published before the area organized. It was published in February 1960
with Wilma D. as editor.
6. The first Alateen Roundup was held in Arkansas City on August 8-10, 1980.
7. Originally, Kansas Al-Anon area districts were configured to match the six Congressional Districts. In 1970, the
state was reconfigured into 22 districts.
8. Kansas was the first area to elect a delegate. The first delegate was Evona H.
9. Kansas sent a delegate to the World Service Conference in New York in April 1961.
10. Polly E. from Overland Park gave the Kansas newsletter its name, "Stepfinder", which was the winning entry in a name-the-newsletter contest.
